Bring back the age of innocent fun

OH dear, oh dear. Can we assume that Michael Blades was denied a free-running, unrestricted childhood before he became Grumpy of Worthing?

Nowadays, what with "elf and safety" restrictions and fear of paedophiles, most children don't go anywhere unsupervised, let alone a beach.

So, God forbid that the new 21st century generation of Worthing children should be allowed access to a new play area funded by the Lottery.

Playing on a beach has always been a great source of excitement for children over the ages '“ a day spent in freedom, with drowning not normally on the agenda.

We called it having fun. Something he has clearly forgotten about, or, sadly, never had.

Maybe if the elderly sat and watched the children play for a while, it would bring back happy memories and smiles to their faces '“ both generations learning to understand each other better.

And as for Fat Boy Slim concerts on the beach '“ what a great idea! If that's on offer, count me in. I'm only 59.
