Fantastic job keeping the garden tidy

As the days and nights get colder and the leaves turn beautiful colours on the trees, all the fun of autumn starts.

Having a bonfire in my garden is one of the things that I love to do the most during this season.

At Chestnut Tree House, we have already started clearing the fallen leaves and the children particularly like walking across the crispy leaves and listening to them crunch.

The corporate groups who volunteer at this time of the year do a lot of sweeping up for us and our regular garden volunteers do a fantastic job keeping the grounds in good condition.

A lot of the children who visit Chestnut Tree House live in a sensory world, so we try to bring the sights and sounds of autumn to life for them through sensory activities.

We are lucky to be surrounded by stunning grounds, providing us with plenty of ways to show the children the natural wonders right on our doorstep.

Our Woodland Walk is full of lovely sensory experiences for the children – from the crunch of leaves underfoot, to the touch of blackberries and conkers.

Nichola and Karen, our fantastic activity leaders, have been collecting up all of their autumn finds and creating some lovely touch and feel boards to display in the house.

Sensory experiences are very important, as some of the children we care for have limited mobility or have conditions which impair their sight.

When you are out enjoying the autumnal weather, please take a moment to stop and enjoy everything you see, hear, smell and experience around you.

Chestnut Tree House, in Dover Lane, Arundel, cares for over 280 children and young adults from 0-25 years of age with progressive life-limiting conditions.
