GUILD CARE: Town crier celebrates a fantastic first year

As town crier, Bob helps raise awareness of the best that Worthing has to offer – from opening shops and delivering birthday messages, to ringing his bell at popular events.

Since revitalising this historic role with the support of the Town Centre Initiative, Bob has brought new visitors to Worthing with his unique presence in the town.

Town Centre Initiative manager, Sharon Clarke, said: “Worthing is so lucky to have a town crier as the role helps promote our heritage, vibrancy and community spirit.

“Bob’s first year as town crier has been fantastic. He has helped promote Worthing in his TV and radio appearances and has also supported many charities and community groups. His presence around the town delights visitors and residents alike, and a selfie with the town crier is a highlight of any visit to Worthing.

“The town crier is a must for any event, not only will he make sure everyone knows that the event is taking place; he will add some pomp and ceremony to proceedings!”

For every event Bob attends, he asks for a nominal donation to his chosen charity, Guild Care.

Bob said: “I’m so pleased that the Town Centre Initiative have given me the opportunity to meet so many of the wonderful people of Worthing as town crier. During my first year, I’ve done incredible things and I have loved every minute of it.

“Guild Care is a cause that is close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be able to help support the great work they do.”

The money Bob has raised will make a real difference to the residents at Caer Gwent care home, in Downview Road, Worthing.

Guild Care’s media officer, Polly Bishop, said: “Thanks to Bob’s support, the residents at Caer Gwent will be able to enjoy outings, entertainment and all the things that give life in a care home that extra sparkle.”
