HEALTH AND CARE: Have your say on local stroke services with online survey

THE local NHS across Sussex is calling for people to give their views on local stroke services, from prevention, admission, assessment and treatment, through to recovery and rehabilitation.

Good progress has been made in enhancing stroke services for Sussex patients in recent years, particularly since the publication of the Department of Health’s national stroke strategy in 2007.

However, we know there is much more we could still do to further improve outcomes for people who experience a stroke.

We are working across Sussex with our colleagues in the provider trusts and clinical commissioning groups to look at this, as the organisations providing services work closely with each other, and some provide services across the whole county.

The work is coordinated by the Sussex Collaborative and is being led by a clinical reference group that includes clinicians and other healthcare professionals from all the acute trusts, the community trust and the ambulance service as well as local authorities, the Stroke Association and patient and carer representatives.

And to help us to look at this, we want to hear from people who have experienced a stroke, and their loved ones, family and carers, to see where local services could be further improved.

We have already been out to four stroke clubs across Coastal West Sussex to talk to these groups about their experiences and what worked for them, and what could be improved.

We have further visits planned, and we are also going to be coming out to community events throughout July and August to talk to more people about local services and our work.

An online survey is also available for people to share their experiences and have a say on local stroke services.
