Rye celebrates scallops

HATS off to all those who have worked so hard to organise the Rye Bay Scallop Festival which gets underway this weekend.

The Rye area is rightly proud of its local produce and that is reflected in the number of high quality restaurants we have in the town and surrounding villages.

It’s a great idea to celebrate the shellfish delicacy on the coast where they are caught and also a reminder of how important Rye’s fishing fleet is to the town in boosting the local economy and attracting visitors.

The Festival has been a real community effort with many different groups and individuals getting on board by organising events and coming up with ideas.

We are certain the week long festival will be a huge success and a great way of beating the winter blues and attracting people to the town during a wet and windy February.

Rye Bay scallops have long been prized by top London restaurants - now local people can see what all the fuss is about while enjoying a much shorter journey from boat to plate.

Congratulations too go to Rye Chef Dev Biswal whose Ambrette restaurant has been voted the best Indian in the South East.
