ST BARNABAS: The hugely important role of St Barnabas House within the local community

I read a truly remarkable statistic provided by Hospice UK that “one in three people will be touched by hospice care at some point in their lives.”

Hearing figures like that simply reaffirms how important hospice care is, not only in our local community, but also on a national level in communities across the country.

I am very proud of the hugely important role that St Barnabas House continues to play in our local area, making a difference to the lives of thousands of families every year.

Since the hospice was founded in 1973, we have cared for over 38,100 patients and their families, which is incredible considering how reliant we have always been on the generosity of people in our local area.

It was the local community who helped to raise the £183,107 required to build the original St Barnabas on Columbia Drive, and it was that same local community who generously supported our Capital Appeal, raising the £13.5million which enabled us to open the new hospice in Titnore Lane five years ago.

The wonderful support that you continue to show us is now ensuring that we are able to improve our existing services, and also develop new services to support more people in the area.
