ST BARNABAS: More than just a building

As readers of this column will know, St Barnabas House is more than just a building.

We provide specialist care at the hospice in Titnore Lane, Worthing and we also provide the same level of care and expertise to patients in their own homes, through our Hospice at Home service.

This service continues to grow as more people are choosing to receive end of life care at home.

Our Hospice at Home Team consists of trained nurses and healthcare assistants who work alongside GPs, community nurses and nurse specialists.

The service provides care seven days a week including a night sitting service from 10pm to 7pm.

The team works from 8.30am to 9pm every day of the year, across the whole of our catchment area.

Since it started in 2012, the Hospice at Home service has made a really big difference to the care of hundreds of local people and families.

The night is usually the most difficult time for both patient and family, which is why in 2014 we extended the service to cover the night time.

Families can go to sleep knowing we’re there.

It costs around £247 per night to provide our entire night service.

As with all of our services, we have to fund these through fundraising activities and donations, as we receive little government funding.
