ST BARNABAS: Party to celebrate re-opening of Durrington charity shop
Our refurbished St Barnabas charity shop in Manor Parade, Salvington Road, celebrated its re-opening last week with a party, and I was very proud to be there.
Worthing town crier Bob Smytherman announced the event in his traditional way, inviting everyone to come and join the celebrations.
At the party, Michael Donin, in one of his last appointments as mayor of Worthing, was joined by the new mayor Sean McDonald, who took over the office on Friday and has chosen St Barnabas as one of his charities this year.
Also present was Major Tom Wye, one of our St Barnabas Patrons, and who attended Durrington’s last re-opening celebration, ten years ago, as the Mayor of Worthing at that time.
Durrington is one of our busiest St Barnabas charity shops. Last year alone, the team processed and sold over 70,000 items that had been generously donated by the people of Durrington.
This raised enough funds to pay for the equivalent of all of the care services provided by St Barnabas House for a fortnight.
The Durrington shop sells a huge range of furniture, bric-a-brac and items for the home and can collect and deliver large items of furniture. It also sells ladieswear, menswear, children’s clothes and a full range of accessories and is always looking for donations.
Shop manager Ronnie Ryan and her team are also looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested please call or pop into the shop for a chat, or email: [email protected]
The shop is situated at 10-12 Manor Parade, Salvington Road, Durrington, BN13 2JP. Telephone 01903 601737.
