TECHNOLOGY: Disabling images for speedy browsing
If you are looking to speed up browsing, you might want to think about disabling the loading of images for all the webpages in your browser.
Images eat up bandwidth as they are much heavier than plain text, meaning your browser will have to use more data to download the images causing the overall page loading speed to be much slower.
Images also take up more space on your display so without them less scrolling is required leading to faster browsing.
If you are interested in more speed and less images then it is possible to disable images from browsers. Here I talk you through how this can be done for Chrome and Firefox.
In Chrome, click on the menu in the top-right corner and select “Settings” then scroll to the bottom and click “show advanced settings”.
Click on “Content settings” under “Privacy” and then select “Do not show any images” under the “Images” section.
You can also select “Manage exceptions” to exclude websites on which you would like to see the images.
If using Firefox, go to “Settings” and “Show advanced settings”.
In the Privacy section click on “Content settings” and go through to Image settings where you can select “Do not show images”.
Disabling images might make your browsing a little less colourful and interesting, but if speedy browsing is what you are after this should help to achieve that whilst also saving on data too.
