TECHNOLOGY: Make most of online calendars

Technology can be a great way to make organising and planning a little easier especially with the many online calendars now available to us.

Events can be programmed into our phones and laptops, and reminders are sent at the appropriate time.

In theory this should reduce stress but a disorganised online calendar can often have the very opposite effect.

Here are a few tips to help make organising your schedule a little easier.

Unify your calendars: With work meetings on Outlook, birthdays on Facebook and social events on your phone, it can be difficult to keep track of your diary.

Instead, install one calendar app which syncs with all the others.

This will give you a view of all your engagements in one convenient place.

Take time to arrange a colour coding system: this will help you give priority to more important events, or let you know which will take a little longer to prepare for.

It also makes it easier to filter out things which deserve less attention.

Switch off certain notifications: a constantly buzzing phone can be a stressful reminder of a busy schedule.

Set reminders for the most important events, preferably in the morning so as not to catch you by surprise, and disable notifications for those of little consequence.
