World of Words: Young writers – connect with the older generation

This week is Children’s Book Week, and the World of Words wants to encourage young people across the area to share the joy of reading and writing.

We have launched a new writing competition just for them. We are looking to encourage children under 16 years of age to send in their poems and stories about connecting with the older generation.

We would like boys and girls to ask their grandparents and elderly neighbours their stories and inspire them to send in stories and poems about a variety of topics – such as life during the war, or the challenges of getting older.

We are contacting every secondary school in the area – and if you are an English teacher, please do get in touch – to invite them to encourage their students to write in.

We want to celebrate our young talented writers and also ask them to spend time getting to understand the stories of the older generation.

All poems and stories need to be submitted by November 3.
