Deserving praise

MY daughter does a paper round, from the newsagents in Bowness Avenue in Sompting.

It’s not just about her, but all the other boys and girls from the shop.

I don’t think people realise that they have their papers delivered by these boys and girls seven days a week.

Monday to Saturday, she starts at about 6.45-7 in the morning, so she’s getting up at 6.30am six days a week, and then on Sundays she starts at 8am, getting up at 7.30am in the morning.

This is every day of the year except Christmas day.

She’s had her exams this year, but she still got up early seven days a week for the last 18 months.

We take her in the car on Sundays as the weight of the papers and supplements is extremely heavy.

They get silly requests from customers, like put paper in a certain way, make sure this paper goes in first, don’t crease it up, etc.

They need some kind of recognition, because people who have their paper delivered very rarely get to see who delivers the newspapers and are unaware that they do it seven days a week, nearly every day of the year, while they are in their cosy, warm beds, leaving silly notes for these paper boys/girls.

I’m proud of my daughter, who hardly ever whinges about it and just gets on with it.

The only time she has a lie in is if we go on holiday.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
