Huts were old back in 1960

I am amused by the colleges redevelopment, or not, debacle.

Shortly after the end of WWI, the wooden buildings in Broadwater Road, pictured above, became the august home of Worthing High School for Boys.

Having originally been envisaged as a temporary structure, by 1960 it was deemed inadequate for delivering a modern, 20th century education and new state-of-the-art premises were required.

In 1963 this ideal was realised, lo and behold, in Bolsover Road, what is today... yes... Worthing College

As an Old Azurian (WHSB old boy) the grey cells absorbed sufficient at both sites to be enjoying the mental dilemma resolving two questions with tongue firmly in cheek.

Firstly, is there not another 50 years' life in the Bolsover Road campus? Secondly, who expounded the theory that "temporary" outlasts "planned obsolescence"?

It was probably on the taught syllabus while I was having "a fag behind the bike-sheds"!
