I wish to take issue with your article '˜High note for Karaoke founder' in the County Times of July 21.

I have attached information and newspaper cuttings showing that Mr Roy Brooke started a form of karaoke as early as 1975 . His Karaoke machines were in use in various pubs as quoted in the attached - 1985 Weavers Arms, Manchester; 1986 The Crescent, Disley; 1986 The Victoria, Hayes, Middlesex.

And many more.

He subsequently formed Karaoke AV Ltd which celebrated ten years trading as Karaoke UK in 1991.

My company took over and still trades as Karaoke UK today, having an international customer base in addition to having supplied such notables as Hamley’s Toy Store, John Lewis , Brighthouse Stores and many more.

If required I can supply further confirmation from our archives including an admission from the Japanese that Mr Brooke was the originator of the electronic ‘sing-a-long’ concept.

Generous aid for children

The annual Action for Children Garden Party was this year again held in the pretty garden at Maplehurst and together with an equally successful Coffee Morning held earlier in the tranquil surroundings of a garden in Itchingfield raised a total of £1,380.

Over approximately the last six years the Action for Children, Horsham Support Group, have via a number and variety of events raised almost £30,000 to aid the work of the charity which last year helped to make life better and give hope for over 300,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families and carers.

We would take this opportunity to thank all who have so generously supported these events.
