LETTER: Wonderful contributions

More than 2,000 Christian Aid envelopes were delivered by over 25 collectors to 27 streets in Horsham.

For the second year a collection was made in Swan Walk shopping centre whose team made us most welcome.

It was our third year at Horsham railway station where we managed to collect on two days in spite of the strike. Again, the Southern Railway team at Horsham station made us most welcome.

Christian Aid has introduced a new initiative entitled the Big Brekkie as an alternative to house to house collections.

The gauntlet having been thrown down it was ably picked up with two successful events run individually by Brighton Road Baptist Church and St John’s, Broadbridge Heath.

The total from the combination of house to house collections and special events, ie coffee mornings, cake stalls, church collection and a quiz was £4,469.94.

This total should increase as the gift aid element has yet to be added, although was a decrease on last year’s £6,020.09.

The money given by the kind people of the town was wonderful considering the economic climate.

On behalf of Christian Aid I would like to thank all who took part in this year’s Christian Aid Week.

A lot of work goes into delivering and collecting the envelopes, with those involved giving freely of their time.

After 15 years this will be my last year as area co-ordinator.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the different church co-ordinators and would like to thank them for their support over the years.

Sadly a number of these staunch supporters are no longer with us, Margaret Witheyman having passed away earlier this year.
