All dogs should be kept on leads

Two weeks ago an article was printed in the Littlehampton Gazette by your reporter Michael Drummond.

It stated I was suffering from fractured ribs after being knocked down by an out of control dog while on a morning walk on August 27 on the green at the bottom of Pigeonhouse Lane, Rustington.

It went on to say I had received a similar injury when my coccyx was cracked as a result of being knocked down by another dog in the same area three years ago.

I was quoted as saying I wanted dogs to be kept on leads until they are on the green itself.

This is actually incorrect as the area I received my injuries is further along on the narrow enclosed area between two sets of gates.

I therefore feel that dogs should be kept on their leads ALL along the green for people’s safety.

I have been a dog owner myself and fully understand the need to let dogs run around freely but when there are many dogs running around, particularly where there are people enjoying the green, accidents can and do happen as I have found to my cost.

So please dog owners act responsibly and keep your dogs under control as I would hate this to happen to someone else.
