Chaos looming

Congratulations to Rachael Howard for her letter regarding the swimming centre. The sentiments expressed were spot on.

Anyone travelling along Worthing Road will be well aware that it is at a standstill much of the time – add the Courtwick and North Littlehampton developments into the mix, plus all the leisure centre users – result, total chaos.

The current seafront site does not have these problems. Access and parking is easy.

Users are not just immediate locals, as Mr Dendle seems to think, they come from across Arun, Rustington, East Preston, Angmering and even Worthing, and all have managed to find the site for the last 30 years.

Also, if holidaymakers come to the beach, seafront, etc, and the weather turns sour, they can still enjoy a swim – are they going to up sticks and drive to the back of the town?

The aerial view of the site shows (a) how perfect it is for the pool, but (b) how perfect for a development of flats or, as Paul Dendle wishes, houses!

He claims to represent the people’s wishes, but has he ever listened to them? No. The town council spent 18 months consulting townspeople and community groups for their views on various aspects of potential future development to help formulate the Littlehampton Neighbourhood Plan. The views of people were abundantly clear – why do we need consultants?

Despite all the time and great expense to the tax payers, Arun is not in the slightest bit concerned with local opinion. Leave the pool and leisure facilities where they are, updated and/or rebuilt, and NO development along the seafront.

Readers have the answer in their hands at next May’s council elections.
