Council not exempt

I AM writing to correct a point made in the Herald, about hosepipe users facing a £1,000 fine, which said Worthing and Adur councils were exempt from restrictions on water use (which comes into force today).

Councils are not exempt from the restrictions.

However, certain activities they might carry out, such as cleaning of windows of non-domestic buildings or washing public service vehicles, are exempt from the current restrictions.

All water users are urged to conserve water whenever they can and we have given water-saving advice to councils and other commercial customers.

Should the situation deteriorate, consideration would be given to applying for powers to restrict other activities.
