Creative costumes raised a wide grin

I FELT I had to write and give a big ‘thank you’ to the Year 11 leavers from Claverham Community College.

I have just returned from a trip into Battle this morning (Friday, May 27) to be thoroughly entertained by the sight of hoards of pupils spilling down the High Street in the most wonderful fancy dress costumes.

Their creativity and sense of fun has started my day with a wide grin and many laugh out loud moments, (or should I say lol, to use the current vernacular).

The tradition of the school to encourage their leavers to indulge in weirdly bizarre costumes brings obvious delight to all, and I applaud and encourage Claverham to continue this practice for the sake of us all!

The world these 16-year-olds are about to enter is, undoubtedly, not an easy one.

Please let me take this opportunity to wish each and every one of them every success for the future, whether it be in higher education, apprenticeships, or in search of elusive employment.

Maintaining a sense of fun and not taking life too seriously will stand them in good stead for choppy waters ahead, and by the looks of the 2011 leavers this morning, their futures should be bright!
