Dicing with death at Rye junction

I have been coming to Rye for the last 20 years to visit friends in North Salts and it always surprises me that no effort has been made to install a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Military Road and Rye Hill.

There are many elderly people living in North Salts and the Military Road area and it is a dice with death trying to cross the road every time they walk into town, as it is a blind spot for pedestrians and for cars speeding over the railway bridge.

Are the authorities waiting for someone to be killed before they act?

I would hope with new councils elected for the area the incoming members will grasp the nettle and install a safe crossing for pedestrians at the junction before a family is left mourning a loved one.
