Disgusting sight

Today I walked from my home in Granville Road at about 11am, into Littlehampton town centre, going via Fitzalan Road and Maltravers Road, then onto Lidl, in New Road. I walked back along New Road, then into Beach Road, back up Granville Road and home.

Caffyn’s Field was badly littered and the streets were literally disgusting. I took three carrier bags with me and filled each one, re-cycling what I could on reaching home.

I appreciate that the cleansing department is working to a budget set by Arun District Council, but after witnessing the streets today, I found myself wishing fervently that Andy and Chris, the seasonal litter-pickers who so ably and efficiently kept East Green spotless and were dispensed with after the tourist season, hadn’t been dispensed with.

Every year I become more and more convinced that essential matters are only of importance to tourists, not the residents who pay high rates of council tax for very little return.
