Eastbourne Epilepsy Group ready to go purple

This day came about in 2008 when a nine-year-old Canadian child called Cassidy Megan decided that she wanted to raise awareness about epilepsy and to show people having seizures that they weren’t alone.

In the past six years, purple day has taken off worldwide.

This year people in countries all over the world will be wearing purple and raising money to raise awareness about this misunderstood condition.

One of those countries is obviously the UK, but it also includes the USA, Australia, Canada, Lagos in Nigeria, Kazakhstan and so many more.

All over the world, buildings light up in purple including, London Bridge, the London Eye, the Eiffel Tower, the BT Tower, Sydney Harbour Bridge, the CN Tower, Belfast City Hall and many other buildings.

Eastbourne Epilepsy Group will be holding an information event in the Arndale Centre all day, with the support of Caroline Ansell, MP.

We would like businesses in Eastbourne to get on board and go purple for the day.

We’ve also approached local schools to see if they would be willing to have a purple non uniform day. Darling ladies night’s are holding a charity event to raise funds for our group.

Even individuals can post a purple selfie on social media sites, showing they support epilepsy awareness. Or they can send their pictures to us to go on our purple parade board on our Facebook pages.

There are more than 500,000 people with epilepsy in the UK, so raising awareness is so very important. Raising awareness will help to get rid of the stigma that’s still attached to epilepsy and eventually no one will walk past someone having a seizure because they are frightened.
