EU: Some facts are inarguable

I read with interest in your paper our local MPs' views about the Brexit referendum.

I do not agree with Sir Peter Bottomley about staying in Europe but I admire the moderate way he puts his case. There is no need for acrimony. Some facts are inarguable.

Fact 1: EU laws are made and passed by unelected officials.

Fact 2: Europe is a shrinking market.

Fact 3: Uncontrolled economic migration of fellow Europeans is putting a strain on our housing, NHS and schools.

Everything else is debatable: Has David Cameron done enough to curb inward migration? Will we be better off in or out of the EU? Can we avoid being dragged into a federal Europe? How difficult will trade agreements be? Nobody can know for sure, however passionately they might argue. I say stick to the facts and the facts tell me it is time we said a fond goodbye to a European experiment that was once good for us but is no more – and the less ill feeling, the better.
