First Bakers & Makers market in Storrington

The 15 stallholders included two newly established organisations: Arnold’s Condiments of Petworth and King’s Cakes of Storrington as well as old favourites Slindon Bakery, The Fresh Fish Shop, Wimblehurst Chocolates and Hammerpot Brewery.

Several handmade craft and gift ideas were available from Spotty Cat Crafts, Dunreyth Alpacas, Southwick Candles, Frames Made 4U, Vanilla Pod Designs, Keith Lloyd Photography and Storrington shop Woodnpotsnthings.

To further showcase the local talent in the area there was toe-tapping music performances from Storrington’s Jay Hunter (www.playjay.co.uk) and Barnham’s Charlotte Howard (www.charlotte4music.com).

Both acts with their unique styles drew a steady flow of customers to the event.

A raffle prize consisting of lots of locally sourced goodies supplied by the stallholders and a number of other local businesses who had been unable to participate on the day was won by Ian and Zoe Chadwick of Southwater, with second prize a veg box donated by Local Farms Produce going to local resident Carol Rawlings.

The market themed loom band competition was won by six year old Megan, whose carrot entry won her a large pick ‘n’ mix from Storrington business Sweet Fashion.

The day was declared a success by all stallholders, many of which were asked by the public when the next one will take place and all of whom said they would gladly come back to Storrington to sell their wares.

Customers also said there was more of a buzz along the High Street than usual.

Storrington Bakers & Makers will be exploring the possibility of making this a more regular occurrence and re-establishing Storrington as a market town.
