Getting down to business in Steyning

We have seen the best of Steyning over the past three weeks.

First came the two weekend exhibitions at the Steyning Centre giving residents the opportunity to examine the Neighbourhood Plan. Over a hundred residents have been involved with councillors and four local parishes working cooperatively. Over 700 residents turned up and were able to see for themselves the results so far and the hard work that had gone into organising this successful event.

Following last weekend we had the Town Showcase event, also at the Steyning Centre, where all our unsung heroes were able to present the work of societies and groups who work tirelessly to provide voluntarily, social and other clubs and services for the community. It was also the ideal opportunity for the Steyning Festival organisers to network and arrange contacts to deliver the exciting programme of events in May and June. Become a Friend of the Festival and make this the best Festival ever.

At the Council Meeting on Monday evening we heard about plans to extend the facilities of the Tennis Club which will include new disabled toilets. The club will make these available to all people using the Memorial Playing Field (MPF). This is the kind of cooperative atmosphere for which Steyning is known. Hopefully there will be no legal challenges because of Village Green status.

The exciting news for our youngsters is that they will be getting a mobile skate park to be run by our Youth worker in various locations, including the MPF. The Council also decided to set up a working party to examine the council’s long overdue plan to provide a permanent skatepark for our youngsters. Many, now grown up, have spent their childhood wishing for this.

So a big thank you to all those who are involved in organising community events and also to Steyning Parish Council for making things heppen.
