Guards are not much help

For the past five to six years, I have taken my father to London for his company reunion lunch. Although not technically disabled, he has great difficulty walking and managing steps and stairs. Consequently, getting on and off trains has been very difficult. Although we have been peered at by train guards on several occasions, not once has there ever been an offer of assistance. That apart, I do not recall ever seeing a guard anywhere other than by his control panel. Not much help to a passenger in difficulty somewhere else on the train. All this talk about them providing assistance to the traveller – rubbish.
