Hat-trick hope

I AM writing to tell you about our 13-year-old grandson, Jack Etherington from Littlehampton (pictured in the Gazette, September 17), who is set to win three out of three shows with his giant pumpkin.

Following first places at Littlehampton Town Show and Walberton Flower Show, he is confident of winning at this coming Saturday's Yapton Cottage Gardeners' autumn show, making a hat-trick.

His giant pumpkin weighs five times more than his entry last year, and is so heavy, no one has scales to weigh it, but we estimate its weight at between 350 and 400lb.

Jack has also won with his long runner beans and heaviest marrow, which have all been grown by him on his grand-dad's allotment in Yapton.
