King Concrete wins

LAST week I wrote a letter about the 'concrete wasteland' being built on the eastern side of the Colonnade. Rest assured that I did not mean the new rowing club, which is very welcome and will be an asset for Bexhill.

What I was writing about was the very intrusive and ugly building reminiscent of a wartime bunker and the high concrete wall behind it. Together they almost completely destroy the only view of the De La Warr Pavilion when one is approaching from the east.

There is now no proper view of the Pavilion until one reaches the putting green - so much for Rother District Council’s aim of opening up the views of the Pavilion.

The concrete building is meant as a ventilation shaft for the huge, high-class restaurant which is planned for the Colonnade - another disaster in the making.

Meanwhile, one of our beautiful views has been stolen, and King Concrete wins again. Still, it’s a good opportunity for the graffiti lads, I suppose.
