LETTER: Defending hard won freedoms

Cllr Helena Croft (Roffey North) isn’t half bold when she sought the limelight for the recently held Armed Forces’ Day (WSCT, 3.7.14, p14).

Mrs Croft, deputy leader of HDC, lectured us about the role of the military in defending our hard won freedoms and yet she herself still hasn’t signed the WSCT’s Free Speech Charter – unlike the leader of West Sussex County Council Louise Goldsmith who has.

The failure by the ‘rump of the Conservative Party’ on HDC under Cllr Dawe and Cllr Croft to sign this fundamental and much needed Charter – brought in the wake of the sacking of Cllr Christian Mitchell as chairman elect of HDC - is something that the Editor of this paper has stated will be brought to the attention again of those councillors between now and next May.

So Mrs Croft – no more political spin with our brave military. Sign the Free Speech Charter - or don’t re-stand for council next May.
