LETTER: Fireworks...

Regarding the article ‘Councillor’s remarks create fireworks’ (Herald, October 8), how can councillor Dollemore ask ‘What benefit the Dogs Trust kennel brings to the district’?

Anyone with a modicum of compassion thinks on the lines of how the Adur district can benefit these vulnerable dogs! It’s not about the people or where the animals come from. Dogs Trust Shoreham is one of many centres around the country and this is as good a place to have one as anywhere else.

However, advocating and allowing a noisy bonfire/fireworks display nearly three weeks before the Guy Fawkes’ night is questionable.

Fireworks also affect many Adur council tax paying pet owners as we have to prepare for them by changing our routines and purchasing stress reducing products to help our pets. Every year this period seems to get longer as this display arranged at the Adur Rec on the October 17 shows. The noise will carry a lot further than just the immediate area.

Dogs Trust staff do a wonderful, caring job to help these innocent animals and if anyone wants to help out they always gladly accept towels, blankets, food etc., even if re-homing a dog isn’t an option.

Maybe councillor Dollemore should pay them a visit and see what they actually do. While he is there he could make a donation to make up for his remarks!
