Littlehampton's Neighbourhood Plan ignored

I should like to pick up on the contents of your report in last week's copy of the Gazette regarding the 'visionary' proposals presented by the West Sussex Clinical Group for the Littlehampton area.

In particular is the site identified for a Medical Centre adjacent to the Morrisons Supermarket.

To select a place so close to the intersection of the A259 and A284, which is already a heavily trafficked area, would be an added liability to the local infrastructure.

It is also alarming to see the marked disregard for the principles already set out in the Littlehampton Neighbourhood Plan.

That Plan was authorised after extensive and time consuming public research as prescribed by Central Agencies, despite the unfulfilled aspirations of the District Council’s otherwise strategic exercise.

Morisons development proposers were totally aware of the conditions and basis of the consent granted in that they would formulate that parcel of the site into premises suitable for small business occupation.

Furthermore, the site would be physically protected from intrusive supermarket car parking with only a single means of access from Courtwick Lane in the interests of surrounding residential amenity.

In consideration of the catchment area set for such a purpose, the future closure of the Wick Level Crossing will segregate the northern area from direct communication with this site.

Such changes to the highway network will make any District Council payments towards support purchase of land in that area a somewhat tenuous and complex proposition.
