Looking back...

DEAR Mr Everson, with regard to your letter (Herald letters, September 1), I hope I didn’t spoil your tea with my omission of the heading “ration books” supplied by the Ministry of Food.

Every person was given one for meat, sausages, bacon, offal, eggs, butter, milk, margerine, lard, cheese, dried fruit, flour, sweets, in short supply, and even cigarettes.

It was nice of you to point out my assertion of wartime rationing. Yes, we all lived through it. I didn’t think it necessary to write in full and the wording didn’t come out as I intended.

I hope these new details (above) meet with your approval.

Olivia Ayton,

East Onslow Close,

Ferring
