Marlipins Museum was coolest place in Shoreham

Father Christmas was almost overwhelmed with the numbers of young children visiting him in his pirate ship.

The aroma of the museum’s famous hot mulled cider punch flowed and the Wellington Wailers raised the old roof with their sea shanties. The wonderful array of jewellery, hand-crafted woodwork, ceramics, woollen designs and cards proved a great temptation to bargain-hunters.

This year’s event truly brought a great deal of fun, pleasure and laughter to the High Street. I and the Friends of Marlipins Museum are delighted to announce that our Christmas Fayre and Friday Night raised £1,230.

As usual all the proceeds will be for our roof repair fund. Thank you so much all of you who came through the door of our town’s 12th century museum and supported us and made the event such a great success despite the terrible weather. I would also like to thank all my volunteers who gave so much of their time and effort towards its success and indeed the Herald for the great publicity it gave us and their support for our local activities throughout the year.

Incidently, the Wellington Wailers will be back in concert at the Marlipins Museum on Saturday, January 22, with stories and songs of the sea.

Although the main museum is shut for the winter, coffee mornings are held every Friday, entrance side door in Middle Street.

On Friday, January 15, Nigel Divers will be giving a talk entitled “Last Summer of Peace: Southwick 1914” at 12.30am – everyone welcome.
