Mere 25-meter pool for Littlehampton is a wasted opportunity

So, ADC has given the green light for Littlehampton's new leisure centre complex, comprising predominantly of a 25m, eight-lane pool.

To me, and no doubt many others, this will go down as probably the biggest missed opportunity for a whole generation of Littlehampton residents if a 50m pool is not built or even considered!

A 50m pool would really put Littlehampton on the map as there are less than 20 in the whole of the UK.

The benefits far out way any negligible extra cost.

A 50m pool could be boomed off into 2 x 25m pools and could massively increase revenue.

Mr Dendle says he is confident a new iconic centre would bring greatly needed health benefits to Littlehampton by inspiring them to take up a sport.

Clearly, he has not looked up a term-time inspire schedule, as most evenings when the residents would no doubt like to swim, there is no public swimming time available.

That time is taken up by aquaerobics, lessons, swim clubs and parties.

A 50m pool could accommodate both the needs for the public and clubs at the same time.

A pool of this size is also crucial for any aspiring swimmer who requires 50m training. It could also become a centre of excellence?

We constantly hear about an iconic leisure centre. What we do need is a centre fit for purpose for our ever expanding local population.

A 50m pool fits this criteria! I can just see in 10 years time, when Mr Dendle and his cohorts are long gone, the public will be saying “why didn’t we build a 50m pool when we had the chance?”

I also note that a ‘Project Team’ is being appointed. Will this team include any regular users from the public or clubs who, ultimately, know what is required?
