Mother of two came to my rescue

Having read a recent letter in the Herald telling of the kindness of Findon locals when the writer sustained a fall there, I am prompted to recount my own recent experience.

On October 26, I was waiting at a Shoreham bus stop. The bus was due and a lady in front of me already had her arm out to stop it. Just then an elderly man on an electric scooter came driving on the pavement on Buckingham Road.

As he drew level, he suddenly swerved and drove towards the road and knocked me into the gutter. He backed away. The bus arrived but I could not get up. Then out of the blue a young mother sat down on the ground beside me, pulled out her mobile and called for an ambulance and from the Crabtree Inn opposite another kind woman brought out a chair, but I could not get up to use it. The young mother and her very well behaved boys stayed by my side until the ambulance came and I was hoisted in.

X-rays at the Worthing Hospital showed that I had a broken femur and hip. By that evening, these had been screwed together and Broadwater Ward cared for me very well so that, 18 days later, I was returned home. I hastened to call the policeman who had taken the name of my kind Samaritan, unfortunately that day’s notes had been thrown away. I would so like to thank that kind lady and her boys for their help and thoughtfulness.
