Prison is a ‘joke’

I couldn’t agree more with Nick Gibb’s views of the nation’s open prisons (Gazette, June 5).

Open prisons like Ford should not be holiday camps for dangerous criminals, where they can just walk away whenever they want to.

How criminals serving life sentences ever got sent to Ford in the first place remains a mystery.

I think the powers in Westminster need to look very, very seriously at the way prisoners are being risk-assessed, because the current system is a complete joke and, in my view, is an accident waiting to happen.
