Rush for beauty spot cash is 'a disgrace'

HOORAY for P. Thorton`s letter (Gazette, June 10), about the awful mess Bairds have made of a beautiful spot, all in the rush for cash.

Shame on them, it's a vital gap and access for many of us locals, and the blatant commercialisation of the site is a disgrace.

Yes, it's privately owned, but with ownership comes generosity.

This is 2010, not 1890! A small charge and a keeper on the gate suffices, surely.

What happened to the charming mature guy who was on duty up to the end of last summer? He let us in for 1 if we were dog walkers. He was a true gent, and acted in a sensitive way to all.

Let's get back to personal contact, not machines and signs and cash, cash, cash.

All dog walkers know their responsibilty towards their dogs these days –

the signs are absurd and repetitive.

Come on, Bairds, you make enough from your farm shop, give back a little to the area which supports your shop by being less commercial at the car park.

No one would consider what has been done to be an improvement. Many people have joined me in avoiding the place in summer now.

West Beach car park in Littlehampton provides easy access to Climping beach along the path in front of the dunes, and a fairer parking price, too. The caf there is good and reasonable too, and they welcome dogs!

I only go to Bairds' car park in the winter season now, when parking is free on the road. Shame on them. I suppose it will be houses there next!
