Is this the train service we want?

I write to you with increased concerns regarding the poor quality of our train service in West Sussex.

I have witnessed many excuses from Southern Railway recently; from staff shortages, staff sickness, no driver, person hit by a train, train strike, leaves on the line, broken down train etc. The list is endless!

I am sure dozens of other rail commuters/passengers/tourists have heard this as well. You could write a book on these excuses. Surely, photos could be published showing passengers how these are true and they are working hard to solve the problem?

However, my sympathy has now gone after many years of commuting to Haywards Heath, this soon turned to frustration and anger. Then as of recent months, I have accepted that things might never change and we need to accept this and put up with it. How sad that it has come to this! Is this the Britain we know and love?

Why should the honest, fare paying passengers have to put up with poor service, expensive fares and long delays while trying to commute to work to earn a living to feed themselves and their families. Do we want tourists to experience such disruption? Is this the reputation the railway industry wants?

I call on the people (council, MPs etc) who the tax payer pays to make a difference to speak up and tell us what they are doing to improve this? Show us you care!

I took a photo of Brighton station on Friday, June 3, to show your readers, the service I received. I eventually boarded a dangerously overcrowded train to Worthing at 18.29pm. Is this acceptable in 21st century Britain?
