TV programmes a threat to family values

Imagine an early-evening TV play so violent it terrifies young families and then imagine its writer saying TV programmes have to become more and more extreme to keep up with the nasty graphic content on the internet.

You don’t actually have to imagine it because it is happening. It has been just about shot down so far, but much more lies in waiting.

We are living in one of the most challenging times for sustaining family values and the moral fabric of society – pornography going mainstream, children being unhealthily sexualised, music videos becoming extreme and misogynistic and public foul language garnishing daily life.

Children no longer realise what an all-round pleasant, balanced, healthy lifestyle is.

There are organisations and groups of people who have worked hard to counter the worrying breakdown in family values shown in all the media.

Many groups are made up of and rely on ordinary people.

Mediawatch-UK, started by Mary Whitehouse, is one of these hardworking, respected, vital campaign groups – but what if it and other groups ceased to be there?

All groups need support and everyone who has a conscience regarding the future could make a positive contribution to that future through their support.

What will the future hold otherwise?
