Where are theelegant shelters?

WE recently visited one of our favourite resorts, Bexhill-on-Sea, and were totally dismayed by the sight that greeted us on the promenade.

The most “out of keeping” and impractical ugly shelters I have ever seen, especially in such a delightful town as Bexhill.

On making enquiries we met many who were of the same opinion as ourselves.

We understand that Rother Council in its wisdom said it was very accessible for a disabled person when on a scooter.

We doubt very much that disabled people, or anyone would be able to withstand for long, the elements that would come at them from all directions.

The original Bexhill shelters would be accessible to disabled folk using scooters if the step-up leading into them were adjusted with cement or such like, thus creating a slight incline rather than the present step-up.

I use a scooter and have sat in comfort in shelters at Seaford, Brighton and Worthing.

Even Brighton does not display such ugly objects and yet I was told the council wanted Bexhill to be like Brighton - how sad is that!

There are various other useless objects erected along the promenade that would be far better placed in the children’s play area.

The garden plots were quite pleasant and would look delightful with the original elegant shelters.
