'Mindless' ice attack

I doubt that the person who hurled a chunk of ice through my lounge window on Saturday (December 19) night possesses the intelligence to be able to read this letter.

However, in the hope that someone close to them might, they should be made aware that only the fortuitous presence of secondary glazing prevented a minor incident of wanton damage become something infinitely more serious, because my daughter was sitting immediately behind the window when it shattered into razor-sharp shards.

Not only the glass but my faith in my local community was shattered, but at least it confirmed my trust in our local constabulary's policy of zero tolerance.

Sussex Police's reaction at 11pm was immediate and their diligence in gathering evidence praise-worthy.

It is a sad commentary on our times that in a Sussex village we can no longer sit in our own homes without fearing attack from the mindless.

Neil Wilson,

Sompting
