New buses put more in reach

WENDY Taylor may be incensed that she has not seen a wheelchair on any of her bus journeys (Herald letters, March 18).

Read Wendy Taylor's letter here.

However, as a wheelchair-using passenger who (like her) has travelled a lot by bus, at most times of day and on a wide variety of routes, I could be equally incensed that she has not got on any of the buses that I have travelled on!

There have been occasions when I have been unable to travel because the wheelchair space was taken, so I am by no means the only such user.

Accessibility on buses has increased my quality of life, allowing me to travel to places otherwise out of reach.

Having been unable to do a journey recently because the route did not yet have accessible buses, I look forward to the day when all the old buses have been replaced by wheelchair-accessible ones.

And maybe, Wendy, I will see you on one of my journeys.
