Not amused by Victoriana

IN response to Sarah Palmer's letter (Worthing Herald, January 22) relating to the proposed play area on the greens, I should just like say this.

Why has she adopted a Victorian stance about the children?

We all know children do make a lot of noise now and again, but that is what kids do.

I myself do not want to see the play area on the Greensward, but not because of the noise.

It does not seem to be the right place.

I would also take issue with her comment, the "right of the kite surfer" and "the dog walker".

There do not seem to be any rights of use on the grass, but there are some prohibitions, mainly to protect the safety of other users.

Whereas I like to see the guys in high winds doing their thing on the water, I would like to say I do not like to see them flouting the prohibition notices which plainly state that the use of wheeled boards and buggies on the greens is prohibited.

Coupled with the use of the Tamarisk clumps and between the beach huts as toilets, in full view of the residents of Marine Crescent and passing parents and children, it will not help the kite surfers to enjoy the use of the greens, as a concession, and not a right.
