In a few months’ time we all have a monumental decision to make in the form of the referendum on whether the UK should leave or stay in the European Union.
Before you turn the page, don’t worry I won’t be giving my opinion on the matter.
However, I have given some thought on how this could affect our little town by the sea.
One thing we could potentially see more of, if we do decide on a ‘Brexit’, is an increase in the rise of the staycation – people holidaying more in England as opposed to heading off for a fortnight in Spain.
With trepidation of what the pound could be worth against the Euro could we see more visitors to sunny Worthing this summer, and others in the future?
News coming from currency exchange counters across the country also shows that we are becoming more adventurous with our travel destinations.
With more far-flung corners of the globe becoming accessible could we potentially have two-way traffic with more visitors to the UK from outside Europe?
We certainly need our tourist board to be pro-active and look at the potential of selling Worthing to a new marketplace as a quintessential English seaside town with great transport links to discover Sussex, London and more.
The more visitors spend in our town the more can be reinvested in making Worthing a destination resort.
