Performance treat

WHAT a treat! It was a privilege to be at Good Friday's performance of the Verdi Requiem at the Assembly Hall.

There were more than 100 members of the Worthing Philharmonic Choir and Worthing Choral Society packed on to the stage, with 50 musicians of the Sinfonia of Arun.

Together with four wonderful young soloists, they gave a remarkable performance under the masterly baton of conductor Donovan Brown (pictured left). He is apparently retiring after 40 years of leading the philharmonic choir and should be so proud of everyone involved.

There was a fantastic brass fanfare passage in the Dies Irae, with four trumpeters at the back of the balcony being answered by the four in the orchestra. It built to a huge crescendo from everyone on stage and was truly spine-chilling.

We are so lucky to have a concert hall designed with such fabulous acoustics in this town. Classical music can connect with everyone of us. Just give it a try - it can be an unforgettable experience.
