ROTARY ROUND-UP: Club pops up at Colonnade House
This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.
Rotary Worthing Steyne moved out of its local HQ at the Ardington Hotel for a week recently to a new Rotary pop-up site at the Colonnade House creative hub in Warwick Street.
This is a great location in town for all sorts of expos and displays.
While we were there we shared the space with Rachel Williams, a freelance props maker and sculptor, and her expo of models and exquisite creations, patterns and forms from cardboard.
Not so artistic, but packed with information, were our club’s displays which covered local Rotary and all its works.
We shared many visitors with Rachel and in particular we were delighted to host mayor Alex Harman and to hear of some shared interest and activities with partnered local charity organisations in Richebourg, France.
At this time, local Rotary Clubs are sponsoring participants for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).
This national programme for young people supports them to their develop leadership qualities and good citizenship in their communities.
The programme will include canoeing, kayaking, cycling, swimming and rock climbing at a centre in Dorking, Surrey.
The RYLA scheme will count towards the Duke of Edinburgh Awards too.
In the next few months our club’s local events for fundraising will include Christmas collections and contributing to international projects to push on Stop Polio, and funding relief efforts for the effects of recent floods and tornados.
