ROTARY ROUND-UP: Is this really Rotary?

This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.

Rotary may not have a reputation of being modern – no, it’s true.

But the recent snow weather did not stop club members meeting and switching on.

Rotary has gone digital with a string of Rotary e-clubs. They are a lot like other Rotary clubs.

They hook up weekly, run their projects as a virtual team and socialise with each other at the usual planned events, meeting online when it’s convenient any day of the week.

E-clubs use webinars, video conferencing, message boards, instant messaging, Skype and Google Hangouts to keep in touch.

Each e-club is based in a local district, but its members can be from anywhere.

You can be a Rotarian and still sun yourself on the beach, take a sea cruise or just be at home, membership could not be easier.

If you cannot get along to our club – or one of the other two in Worthing – perhaps an e-club is for you?

Busy people don’t have time for regular meetings and need to be flexible about arrangements.

And, for example, if you must commute or travel a lot, or have a family responsibility, perhaps cannot get about so easily, and still want to do something around our community, an e-club is a valuable way to get together and get some projects underway around the area to help other organisations and our locality.

There are six current Rotary e-clubs and you can join via our club or visit an e-club website for more information – just tell them we put you on to them.

Try www.rotarygbi.org/e-clubs or come along and see us at Rotary Worthing Steyne. We look forward to seeing you.
