ROTARY ROUND-UP: Fundraising – but different

Rotary UK's Grand Tour 2018 takes place in May
Rotary UK's Grand Tour 2018 takes place in May

This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.

You can choose – cars or motorbikes in 2018?

Rotary UK’s Grand Tour 2018, an amazing road trip across Great Britain and Ireland, takes place in May 2018. Why not take part and support our efforts to knockout polio?

Polio is 99 per cent defeated. It’s harder to clear up this last one per cent.

Only three countries are affected now; Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Donations you raise on the Grand Tour will help us push on to get to 100 per cent success level.

Pick your team, car, route and where you stay on this three-day event.

Sponsorship will helpful and our club could help you find them.

In return, Rotary clubs around your chosen route will provide checkpoints and rest areas in their best, most stunning locations.

We’ll even wave you across the finish line with a chequered flag at the end-of-tour party in Yorkshire on May 24 – so there is a clue about a route!

When you register, we will send you two large vinyl car stickers which show the world that you are part of this amazing journey, and helps you spot other teams.

You will also receive a sponsor form and a log book.

You may also want to wear purple End Polio Now kit; please let us know.

This is not a competition. A bargain banger or your prized classic which needs a good run might be just the job.

It can be anything as long as it is suitable for the journey and is taxed, MOT’d, roadworthy and correctly insured.

The only race involved is the one to eradicate polio quickly.

Your help is crucial as funds raised are going to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign.

More details about the 2018 Grand Tour are on www.rotarygbi.org/what-we-do/purple4polio-rotary-grand-tour

Or are you up for a motorbike ride and interested in Rotary? We can point you at something too.

Its Ride for Rotary, a motorbike ride in India where you can tour four Rotary districts and enjoy India’s hospitality, heritage and culture.

Last year, riders from 14 countries took part covering just over 2,000kms together.

The 2018 ride will last 11 days and will include routes in forests, alongside beaches, in nature reserves.

The ride takes place in January 2018 and more information is on www.rideforrotary.com

If you have another idea about raising some money to overcome polio, perhaps we can do something together.

Please let us know and contact us at our club HQ at the Ardington Hotel.

Hope to hear from you.
