This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.
The August Bank Holiday is always a special time in the town’s three Rotary Clubs’ calendar – to set up the Carnival and provide something different for everyone.
This year the clubs expanded the event and partnered up with Barties Presents to put on three days of family entertainment, peaking with the Carnival annual procession and the street-side collections.
Club members from Rotary Steyne were there on the three days and to collect donations along the way.
Our thanks to everyone who came along to see the procession on a windy, wet day and who generously give any change for our fundraising.
The excellent report in last week’s Herald gave the details and all the items on the internet and Facebook.
And there have been some great stories and pictures, with one notable exception.
As collectors handed in their collection buckets, we realised that one collector deserved a special mention.
A regular attender at Worthing Carnival over the years, and at other similar events along the coast since the 1990s, Tyndall Jones has certainly added to funds for many charity organisations and groups.
In fact he reports he has raised £100,000 over the years.
Rotary Steyne Club President Terry Herbert met and congratulated Tyndall on his efforts for us again this year.
We take our hats off to you (no coins in sight though) and hope to see you again next year.
Fundraising events are always a chance to meet people with good reason for collecting and we look forward to helping where we can.
Last month, at our special Annual Car Boot sale on the Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham, we had some competition from a group of supporters for two members of neighbouring Outdoor Activities Centre, who were raising funds to help send the two kayakers off on national competitions later this season.
It was great to meet you all, support your cause and enjoy some homemade cakes and refreshments. Good luck.
We are always pleased to help local groups where possible.
If you have a project you would like to discuss, why not come along and meet us – no obligations – to find out what else Rotarians do, our Club plans for the rest of the year, and how we might work together.
Please phone ahead on 07788 638757 to confirm.
