Worthing Rotary Club recently launched the Rotary Young Writer competition which attracted 51 entries from junior and senior schools.

The subject was ‘A different perspective’ and all the entries had to be 500 words or less.

The standard of writing was extremely high with some wonderfully imaginative work and incredibly descriptive writing.

The judge found the decision to select one winner extremely hard but we are now pleased to announce that the winner of the junior section is Max Willis from Lancing Prep at Worthing, and the winner of the intermediate section is George Dagg from Our Lady of Sion.

Their excellent pieces of writing have now been submitted to the district judge for a chance to win the district final.

To further celebrate the wonderful achievements of our youngsters we are planning a fundraising concert for the autumn where we will invite local choirs, bands and dance groups to showcase their talents.

We already have a number of schools interested in bringing their pupils and more would be very welcome.

Other activities that we have planned are the Three Forts Challenge, starting at the Rotary Ground in Hill Barn Lane.

This marathon run (or half marathon) takes place on Sunday, May 6, and more details can be found on the website: www.threefortschallenge.org.uk

In 2018 we will again be supporting Ferring Country Centre, an independent charity which provides meaningful training and work experience for people with learning difficulties.

With your help we have raised more than £39,000 for them in the past five years.

We also have a car boot sale on August 4 and the annual August bank holiday procession and fair.

If you have ideas of how we can get more involved in our community then come and join us for our meeting one Monday lunchtime.

We would love to welcome you and explore ways we can work together to help make Worthing an even more exciting place to live.
